Bookcliff Mesa
Mt Garfield table top.
In 1853 Lt. E.G Beckwith noticed this unusual mountain range formation that resembled "book on a shell " , he and Cpt.John Gunnison named that mountain : "Bookcliff Mesa ". In 1882 settlers moved in the Grand valley and named this summit "Mt Garfield " dedicated to President John Garfield who was assasinated in 1881
